I am sending you this by e-mail instead of posting to the trac system because Jano does not want the capture files to be public.His e-mail and files are at the end. I am also including my 'fixed' file: alice.fixed4.cap I simply selected two correct handshake packets. The PSK is 'ulwnbe5izzpx06zmxgk2zvgj'.Basically the root problem is that aircrack-ng fails to properly select handshake packets when there are lots of bits and pieces of handshakes in the capture. I looked at the source code to see how it selects the handshake. I have documented this below plus documented what I think the criteria should be.

Comment by latinsud on 11 Jul 2009 18:55 UTCAs I commented here i have some ideas to take into accout for eapol packet selection:.Step 1 and step 2 of a handshake should have same replay counter to be considered valid within that handshake (from what i've read elsewhere).Most recent handshake could have priority over old ones (it's unlikely case that PSK changes, but we don't know how many days the capture has been running).Using only step 2 and 3 frames is possible, but special attention must be taken they don't belong to different handshakes (by time or replay counters?).

(In the MOM1 example, replay counter goes from 16 back to 0, which scares me).Complete 4 way handshakes should have priority over partial (eg: that have only steps 1 and 2).Taking into account last 2 statements and if understood partial handshakes, should we give priority to '1+2' (pro: less prone to selection errors) or to '2+3' (pro: less prone to client-didn't-really-know-the-passphrase errors) handshakes?
